I don’t really do polls.  But today I will ask a question.  Would you rather have a larger list of quality names at auction at Namejet but they have higher reserves?    Or would you rather have less, have them with lower or no reserve and not have to sort through all the names ?  My opinion is I would rather have good names than no names.  Even though it takes me a lot longer to sort through the list trying to find names that in my opinion, present value.   To me, its worth the extra effort because I want quality, even if its high priced, or above me price, quality.  To a true bargain hunter there is slim pickings lately in the reserved names.  You have to add a list of checks to the normal procedure.    First you find a name you like and now you have to see if the reserve is in your range.  Before it was just finding names and then worrying about other bidders

Looking at it from the sellers side I would do the same thing.  Its not a fire sale.  Its testing the market.  If someone wants a name bad enough it will sell.  If not I don’t have to worry about someone coming in and sniping it.  The trade off is there are better quality names even if only a few actually sell.  A few is better than nothing and it puts more names on the board.  A win win for auction house and seller.

On a personal note I did my first mile race ever this weekend.  I am a marathon kind of person.  It hurts for the last hour but the training and journey to the race is my favorite part.  A mile is a different beast.  Its fast.  It involves more strength and speed training than I’m used to.  If you want the truth, its too hard on my body.  Speed injures old people like me.  But I was a main sponsor of the race so I was expected to show up.  And if I’m showing up I’m going to race.

I had a problem though.  I am in the middle of training for a fall marathon and Sunday is my long day.  My schedule doesn’t allow me to mix things up like a retired Michael Cyger.  I have to get to work.   So I decided to go ahead with my 15 mile long run in the morning and run the race at night.  Tempering the expected time for the mile.   Race time came and I actually felt pretty good.  I took a hot shower before and a mile and a half warmup to prevent a pulled muscle.  I took a double expresso shot with whipped cream about an hour before the race.  So I was ready.  Then one of my running partners let me know that his 13 year old son had run a 5:41.   Now I had a time to beat.  I just wasn’t sure if my legs can move that fast after a long run.  In my workouts during the week I usually do mile repeats at 6:15 so I figured I could easily drop it under 6 for only one mile.   The gun went off

I went out hard.  Too hard.  I crossed the half mile mark at 2:38 .  I had exactly a zero percent chance of running a 5:16 today.  The pain train was coming.  My next half mile was pretty much me looking at the finish line (it was a point to point race) and trying not to overstride and pull anything.  But I could see that sub 5:40 was possible.  So I gunned it a little bit at the last 200 meters and came in a 5:40 flat.   Even more important, my legs felt OK.   I hung out with my friends and waited to see the results.  I won my age group by 3 seconds.  There are a lot of fast 45-50 year olds.  And I would have not placed in the 40-45.  They were getting close to 5 minutes in that category.  To show you how fast the best marathoners are running.  They run 4:38 per mile, THE ENTIRE MARATHON.   And I can’t run 800 meters at that pace.  Proving yet again, you may win your age group and get a free gift certificate to a Mexican restaurant, but you ain’t nothing compared to the big boys.   And that’s good because I like a good slice of bread pudding with ice cream and they can’t eat that.

And how was I on Monday morning?  I could barely walk.  Here are today’s names. Click through to see the current price

Get 14.3% More value at registrars that don’t have an expired auction process.

I’ve had a good experience with Godaddy over the last several years. I sold my first domain on the premium listings platform.

I don’t want to keep beating on them, but they continue to move away from a domainer friendly registrar and more towards a supply clearing house for inventory that someone else has paid for.

Not to mention the average end user. There is no way in hell I’d keep a domain at Godaddy that I am using or intend to use for business. I would also discourage anybody I know from doing it especially the people that really no nothing about domains.

Look at the Porn extortion that we’ve talked about in the past, where domains with sites on them expire, are auctioned off and then held for ransom with Russian porn.

Even though this is not the intended life cycle of a domain, and negates all the safety measures put in place by ICANN, they can do it. We agree to this when we pay for their service.

Lucky for us there’s numerous options. For example NameBright or Uniregistry, I have names at both. At these registrars we get a full 45 days of auto renew grace, and only 20 at Godaddy before the name can be auctioned.

If you have a large portfolio that is constantly in transition (buying and dropping everyday) these extra days add significant time for a potential sale. In fact last month I paid the redemption fee to renew a name that had sold for several thousand $. The name had been expired for over 2 months.

In fact if my math is correct, you get 14.3% more value out of a domain at these other registrars.

Try and follow my math:

Auto Renew Grace:

Up to 45 days

Redemption:

30 days

Godaddy 20 days after Expiration possible loss of domain by Auction bid.

45-20=25

25+30=55 More days of possible sale.

365+20=385 Godaddy Adjusted registration period

55/385=0.143X100=14.3%

14.3% more value

The best solution for Godaddy and for us, is to allow us to auction names through their platform by letting them expire and go through the auction, but that’s another topic that I’ve written about before.

Recently I switched a bunch  of names that didn’t have pricing to pricing based off the Godaddy formula. It’s not the valuation amount, but coordinated to it. I didn’t do this because I thought it was some super awesome system, I did it because I’m lazy and didn’t have time to do through 15K unpriced names. I would have picked one price and priced them all the same.

The result has made me rethink my previous pricing strategy, while reinforcing my belief in the power of the BIN sale.

In the past I would have had a higher percentage of domains priced lower, anywhere from 199-999. I’m still convinced that this is a good strategy for a large number of names. What I’ve found using the new pricing system is names going for 2-3K that I would have sold for under 1k in the past.

Obviously I have no way of knowing how many sales I’m missing out on, but I think there is a certain range that the average to lower limit end user will pay.

Maybe I’ve been underselling a lot of names, but I’m not worried about it. This is not an exact science, there are numerous factors including luck at play. The only thing we can do is try things, learn from them and then adapt as needed.

Yesterday my phone stopped charging and eventually died. No problem, I drove to the AT&T store and bought a new one. It was probably time to upgrade anyway, I was running a 6s. On the drive back from the store my car tells me that there is no key detected. This message flashed off and on several times, but stayed on by the time I made it home.

Apparently my car wont start or do anything without the key fob. It has a valet key, which I always assumed you could use to start the car in the event of smart key failure. Turns out you can’t, the metal valet key is for you to keep and lock the glove box while you give the key fob to the valet.

So I texted a friend that lives close and asked him to pick me up some batteries for the key fob. I replaced the batteries and still no luck starting the car. My guess is that I fried the key fob by getting it wet, though I can’t think of a specific occurrence. I only have one key, because my dumb ass never bought a second key when the car only came with one.

I called the dealer yesterday evening but the parts department was closed. So hopefully I’ll be able to get a new key fob today, otherwise I could attempt to ride my bike to work, but it’s 110 miles one way. I have a truck, but It doesn’t have a valid inspection, (for the last 4 years) I wouldn’t normally worry about that, but I’ve already gotten a ticket for the lack of inspection.

And finally. I received a UDRP on a domain that some clown let expire, he says in the paperwork that the domain is the name of his software project. He states in the paperwork that his idea failed initially, but he is now starting the project again. He states that I am exploiting his product for my own gains.  lol.

Well buddy, I didn’t register that domain because I knew about your failed software product, hoping that someday you’d get your shit together and make something awesome, allowing me to extort you. He states that he did contact me, telling me that he had let the domain expire by accident. I searched through my emails and found a short email with an unclear subject line. I get tons of spam mail and don’t see every email. Typically I do return domains to the previous owners for a small fee, if they can prove they owned the domain and have plans for it.

I’ll probably submit a respond to the UDRP if I have time, because I don’t think he has a case. There was no bad faith, and no trademark common or registered, and no improper use of the domain that misrepresenting his product. The issue is how much time do you devote to a domain you paid reg fee, or is it a matter of principle?

Should you pay extra for a domain sales site or auction house to promote your name?  Nobody is asking for my advice but you are going to get it anyway.   For instant on Flippa. They used to and still may have a package that lets you pay extra for showcasing your name.   I believe they will put it on a hot list or send it out in a newsletter for a fee.    Why would I pay Flippa a fee when they can’t even get the regular old search correct?

Go look for most active domains.  That should be an easy search.  Toggle “most active” and it should give you domains with the most bids.  It does but 25% of them have ended.   And ended a long time ago.   Your name has little to no chance of making it to the top if you’re fighting against old auctions.   I could give you a ton more examples of how bad the search is.  But the point is you should only ever pay for added value.   And added means existing value is there to be added to.   There is a reason people pay us to list names here.  One of them is that the auction houses haven’t figured out how to single out a name and give it extra value.  Most haven’t even figured out how to put out a good search.   As a matter of fact pretty much everyone has created their own program or uses a third party auction search program to sort through the list because it has much more information about the domain to use to sort. Age,  length, taken in other tlds, CPC,  number of bids.  Dozens of more parameters.  If they really want to help you out, make it easier to find your name on their site.   Here are today’s names. Click through to see the current price

Travis emailed me the other day about something. After I responded to his email his next response was “What the hell is a Swift Cheetah”.

Well that’s the name you get when your daughter uses your ipad and changes your account name in Youtube and wants her own online presence. Changing the name in Youtube will change it across the Google spectrum and affect anything google related to that account.

If you try and change it back right away, Google tells you that it was changed recently so you’ll have to wait. She did this once before and it took me quite a bit of time to figure out how to change it. I should have just asked her to change it back.

I’m not sure how many emails I’ve responded to as the “Swift Cheetah”, but if you were one of those people here’s your answer why. I may just leave it and remain the Swift Cheetah from now on.

Not a lot of time for chit chat today.   Driving across Canada the last day.  Stopped and saw Niagra falls, Toronto, a bunch of vineyards.  And I squeezed in 14 miles of running along the old Erie canal tow road outside of Syracuse before the journey.    One thing I noticed all day in Canada is that EVERY single radio ad had the url end in .CA.   Even International brands used the .ca for Canada division.   I knew that Canadian companies used .ca frequently but had no idea pretty much everyone does.   Surprising that the .ca market isn’t bigger. I know there is a market but there seems to be only a few people that actually make money in the reseller market.  On a side note, Canadian tourist locations like Niagra Falls are exactly like every tourist place I’ve been all over the world.  75% Chinese and Middle Eastern.   Had no idea Toronto was 10% Chinese as well.   Nothing wrong with it but for some reason I expected to go to Canada and see milky white skinned people with crooked hats saying “Aboot” all the time. And that’s why I travel.  To see it in person   Here are today’s names. Click through to see the current price

Quote of the Day:  No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”-Heraclitus

I bought a worm farm a few weeks ago. It’s an indoor composting unit that’s supposed to give you organic soil or worm castings (worm poop), while letting you dispose of old food and the non edible parts of food instead of just throwing it out.

The kit I bought came with 2000 red composting worms and the worm population is supposed to double every 3 months or so.

I could make up a story, virtue signaling that I bought it to be environmentally friendly or to grow food in the organic soil, but the real reason is I wanted an unlimited supply of fishing bait. Buying a dozen night crawlers for $4 bucks get’s expensive plus you can’t always find them. Now I have my own supply and a place to put back the worms I don’t use. In the past I would just put them in the fridge to make them last longer, but they’d end up dead after a week or two.

I still don’t have a key for my car lol. This is what happens when you try and take the “easy” or cheaper way out. I hate going to the dealer so I usually do whatever it takes not to go. A few months ago I had a problem with the turbo going into limp mode. I could still drive just not very fast up hills. I fixed it eventually, by watching videos and looking through forums. The trouble was the a circuit connection in the waste gate modulator.

I hate going to the dealer because under normal circumstances I can figure out the problem and don’t want to pay the price of legal counsel for a vehicle. Sure they wash it after any maintenance, but the cost is crazy.

There should be at least 2 levels of Mercedes dealers, one for the high rollers, and another for people that like diesel vehicles that will run for 1/2 a million miles.  I mean I’ve got a fricken hitch on mine to pull a “catfishing” boat, probably not your average Mercedes owner.

So I bought a few after market keys. They took 8 days to get here,  this was taking way longer than I wanted. I initially called the dealer who told me I’d have to tow the car to them and wait several days to get a key.

After getting the blank keys I had to find a lock smith that could program it. I finally found one, but he wanted more money than the dealer. I didn’t care at that point, because I’d still have to wait for the dealer to order a key, and the locksmith could supposedly make me one on the spot. The reason It took so long to find the right locksmith, is that there is specific equipment used for the MB smartkey. This locksmith had just bought the equipment for $30K   and never used it.

To make a long story shorter, after 5 hours and numerous calls to his tech support, we determined that my ignition had a “one in a million” circuit board, and a key couldn’t be programmed. So on the way home from work today, I stopped and ordered a new key from the dealer. I’ve now  learned my lesson on keys.

Domain Sherpa must have been out of people to interview, or maybe everyone is on vacation, :) but Tess called me last week and asked if I could do a show with Drew on expired and other aftermarket domains.

I think it went well but I also think I could spend 10 or maybe 20 hours talking about expireddomains.net alone, not to mention delving into all the other aspects associated with the wholesale, expired and drop domains.

Check it out if you haven’t yet. It sounds like I stutter through the whole thing, but it’s really just my ADD trying to talk about 10 things at once.

And finally since there’s a running joke about vegan domains, I thought I’d add Ted Nugents thoughts on how the whole thing works.

At the very beginning of the clip he’s telling Joe how his son is a vegan and how he respects that choice.

Escrow.com

It’s Labor Day here in the US which is supposed to be the day you give off to employees but its turned into a day where retail doesn’t let anyone off and only the corporate people get off. Turning into blue collar serving white collar all day.  I close the nursery though because I think everyone deserves a day off and to get paid for it.  Of course the plants don’t know its a day off so we have a group that has to go in and water.  I pay double pay that day to try and make up for it but I’m always grateful to those that do extra.

On the domains front I sold a domain via Afternic, Arb.info.   I got the email early in the morning that said the name had been canceled.  I thought to myself, while not a great name, I really didn’t mean to let it expire.  Then I got the Afternic email that said it was for $888 and felt a lot better.  I used the money to upgrade my portfolio and buy XFrame dot com.  Not a world changing name but I like it and its better than the .info.  Cost me a little more than what I made after commission but a pretty good trade.  That’s how I’ve been building my portfolio the last few years.  When I sell,  I buy a better name than I sold. Some times a few better names.

Also, I noticed that quite a few people track my portfolio movements.  I’m honored that anyone cares.  I really don’t have anything to hide so feel free.   I’m at 99% dot com but I do need to get rid of my numerics. I will let most of them expire.  And yes, I have a few NN.ws and LL.ws that I have no idea what I’ll do with them.  Still figuring that out.

Here are today’s names. Click through to see the current price

Quote of the Day:  “Everybody has a secret world inside of them. All of the people of the world, I mean everybody. No matter how dull and boring they are on the outside, inside them they’ve all got unimaginable, magnificent, wonderful, stupid, amazing worlds. Not just one world. Hundreds of them. Thousands maybe.”  -Neil Gaiman

 Domain of the Day:

 Namejet and Sedo Names

B2P.org   Business to People.  Replacing B2B and B2C in the marketing world. No bids

Contagiously.com    Something that makes everyone want to do it.   No bids

ModernWeed.com   Not your dads marijuana

Chugger.com    I think of a person chugging beer but to some its a guy begging for donations

000001.com   The very second 6N.com in the world.  000000 is first

TightyWhities.com  Met reserve and someone is getting a new AWESOME domain.

46L.com and 47L.com   Two CCC.com under $250

Lazyish.com  Good blog name IMO

Godaddy Domains That I Like With Multiple Bids

RacingTires.com   Good for a marketing name or an entire dedicated brand.  20 years old

DomainRepo.com  Essentially what this entire Godaddy list is.  Taking it back because you missed a payment

KoalaTree.com   People love koala bears

Teepo.com  Under $25 at press time but I’ll put the over under at $588

EnergyReports.com   All about energy right now

EVCloud.com  Cloud for Tesla?  At four figures

KeyThings.com   21 year old domain

FanVibe.com  Licensed team gear all the way

Godaddy Domains With No Bids

SwingHat.com Doesn’t mean anything to me but looks like a cool brand

CallGod.com  You didn’t know you could just pick up the phone and call did you?

GoBet.org  The dot org isn’t that great but the keywords work real well for gambling

WearablePay.com  A bit generic but this is a big future market

99Clothing.com  Because someone is going to name their line this

I hope everyone had a nice labor day. I was going to say if you celebrate it, but who really celebrates labor day. I suppose at some point people took a moment to remember people that work? In my mind it basically  just marks the end of summer. But, so as not to offend any workers or Labor day enthusiasts, let’s all take a moment to reflect on people that go to work.

(4-3-2) Ok, that makes me feel better.

I spent the first half of my labor day doing nothing but reading a book. It was 92 degrees outside with 100% humidity. Later I caught some bait, and then took the boat out on the river. I had a good night, at one point I had 4 flatheads hooked at the same time landed all 4. Luckily I ran out of bait so I was able to come in and get this list done. :)

I was hesitant to take the boat out on the end of summer holiday. If you remember, my boat breakdown story took place on Memorial Day. It would have been ironic to breakdown on both summer holidays, but luckily I made it back.

I filed a response to the UDRP that I talked about a few weeks ago. It really didn’t take that long, I just used the form that was provided by the provider.

If it was a more important or expensive name I probably would have taken more time, proof read and given more thought out answers. But as it wasn’t I responded to the ridiculousness and basically chastised the complainant for trying to steal something of mine.

I’ll let everyone know the outcome good or bad, and go through the whole process when it’s all over. Maybe it’ll help someone respond to their own UDRP in the future.

One thing that it reminds me of is the complete lack of understanding that the general public has regarding anything having to do with domains. He didn’t seem to understand that I list everything for sale and that is how my business works, that I don’t track down failed business idea’s hoping they might someday have a phoenix style revival.

Besides not having the time to do that, it seems like a crazy losing strategy. I want domains in industries and brands that have a future, not ones that have already failed.

Have a great weekend. Enjoy the weather, I think it’s supposed to rain here again. Last week was the first time I had the option to mark my self “safe” on facebook. The county had a few storm cells that stalled out and produced flash flooding. Lucky for me the flooding didn’t start till about 5 miles to the east. It’s been a wet summer, I think it’s rained more this year than any other year I can remember.  Stay dry

I hate losing a deal over a $300 but I lost one yesterday over exactly that amount.  I had an offer for $3500 from a broker at eName.  I told them I wanted $5500.  I do think it will be worth more down the road but you can say that about all domains .   They countered with $3700 and pay fees.  I said no.  After thinking about it I decided that I would take $4K and they pay fees.  I wanted to get my account built back up for a LLL.com purchase and figured this was a decent return and would cash out.    But they held steady at $3700 and said that was final offer.   My $4000 was also my final offer so we canceled the negotiation.  The name was Z95.com

What’s $300?  In this case I was on the fence on whether to sell.  I had mentioned that I was going to auction some names including that one at Namejet but I decided to do what I have done the last year and just wait.  I was immediately vindicated when the offer came in on Z95.  “See, that’s why you wait” was my thought.   I have no desire to sell any of my names like this for less than $5k so I was already taking the 20% off what I wanted.   I justified it to myself by saying that’s how much they would take off if I  sold it on afternic or somewhere that charges a commission (yes I know its less many places).  To take it less than that would be below my number.  So I passed.  Maybe I regret it later, maybe I sell it for more.  And honestly I thought they would have taken the $4K.  They too were probably on the fence and I’m sure the broker was charging them a buyers fee on top.  Of course I’ll post here when I do finally sell it and see if my passing was a good idea or not.   Here are today’s names. Click through to see the current price

Quote of the Day:

 Domain of the Day:

Escrow.com

There’s nothing more annoying than getting domain spam on Facebook. It could be through messages or someone friend requesting you, then posting domains on your wall and asking if you’re interested.

I’m all for outbound marketing, but domainers shouldn’t be target audience for outbound. If you need to sell your domains wholesale put them on an auction or forum.  Your domain that isn’t selling to an end user likely isn’t one that I want to be bothered with to buy for a premium price. And it will be for a premium wholesale price, otherwise they would just list the name on an auction.

Obviously there are certain cases where this doesn’t apply, like names that you know someone is looking for, or maybe premium domains that you need to sell quick.

So don’t do douchey things like message other domainers on social media trying to offload your crap domains, it’s annoying and it makes you look desperate, not like the hustler you think you are.

I have a question for you.  Of these two names which do you like more?

InternetCoach.com or RemoteCoach.com

Does it make a difference if InternetCoach was $2100 and RemoteCoach was $398?

Which do you think provides you with the best rate of return?

I was bidding on Internet Coach and stopped because I already own Remote Coach. I feel the name is a better brand than Internet Coach and it was a heck of a lot cheaper.  Both let you know that you offer online coaching.  And neither of the two would lead the category. That would be  OnlineCoach.  When I like a category I try and buy as many names as I can to try and give options or “more hooks” if someone is searching for a name on a platform.   But I also don’t want to spend $2K on a name that I can buy 7 similar names.   But it also presents the biggest problem for newer investors.  Thinking those 7 names are as good as the $2K name.  Or vice versa.   Not sure which category I fit in on this one.  Here are today’s names.  Click through to see the current price

Quote of the Day:  “Can you remember who you were, before the world told you who you should be?” – Charles Bukowski

Domain of the Day:   uGamer.com I think you probably are going to be OK picking up any game related name if you get it at a decent price.  My opinion only.  Don’t buy on it, just watch

Namejet and Sedo Names and Others

CameraPhone.org    There’s a whole group of phone photographers.  Of course it’s not as challenging with camera phones being so good now

ARSN.com  Going to meet reserve.  Great letters and N for Network

SnowTime.com  Ironic, because I have to go out for snow plowing in 6 hours.  A little early for snowtime if you ask me

RelocationBroker.com  Had no idea there was such a thing until I saw the bids on this name

Godaddy Domains That I Like With Multiple Bids

VirtualReality.io     A hot industry on a hot tld.  A perfect match.  Under $200 at press time

WePower.com   Couldn’t believe all the companies that have this name.  One of them is going to bid this up to five figures IMO

SPGL.com  Solid letters.  L for League

MotorHeads.com  this was the first name I noticed on the list.  Great name for grease monkeys and weekend mechanics

Trooth.com  Fails the radio test but still going to do well because of the implications and 5L.

LaunchTeam.com   I see this worth four figures at auction.  My opinion only.  There can be a lot of money in launching

YourLogoHere.com   Will eventually end up at a marketing product company

HeliCom.com   1995 domain.  Upgrade name for a few European companies.  Sounds 20 years old

LoveSalon.com    A salon that is probably going to be called LOVE but has to go with this

FineBar.com  Same thing here with a bar named FINE

FoundersDay.com   Not sure how much you can get for it but a ton of places have founders day.  Maybe one is a big financial windfall day

FirstRobot.com   A bit limited on end users but Bad Robot is a production company that has nothing to do with robots so maybe not

IceBot.com   Or you could go the bot route over the whole word

SocialCon.com  Social media has some big conferences.  This could become the big boy

KCMS.com  Love seeing LLLL.coms getting these types of bids.  Means I made some good choices

877776.com and 475777.com  Just to remind you that regardless of whether you like them or not, there are still lots of people that will pay big money for repeaters

Godaddy Domains With One or No Bids

Darts.BIZ   Every young male I know grew up playing darts.  I have probably played 10,000 games of Cricket.  No bids

THE100.COM  Good name for a list or Top 100 of something

Diary.BIZ      I think .biz works in marketing.  I could easily see this on the side of a milk producer

Farmersfood.COM      Food that’s straight from the farm to your table

Kosovan.COM  Refers to being from Kosovo.  Or just a nice brand

CloneWare.com Software so you can clone from home

DickHungry.com  2nd Worst race car name ever

WorkLikeADog.com  Probably a negative connotation but for $12 might flip as a marketing name

FastWins.com Another future marketing name.  Not going to name your business this but would be your slogan.  Short slogans make good domain names

ExtremeSun.com Solar play

Bluzo.com Nice 5L.com with no bids

Permio.com Another one but has one extra letter so maybe not officially a 5L.  Still no bids

HotCobra.com  sweaty snakes make great brands.  Just kidding.  Just short and memorable

Meoby.com A definite maybe at $12

GutterBlaster.com  As Seen on TV gutter cleaning system in the making

CrowdTank.com Shark tank for the crowd

LittleGrain.com  One of my favorite restaurants in Syracuse is called Original Grain.  Not that it has much to do with this other than the word grain. But thought you should still know

InstantFreightQuotes.com  Good marketing name for a shipping broker

RoyalGrowers.com  I’m thinking canna. Pretty much anything horticulture is now canna

WFAcademy.com  Upgrade name for a few dozen academies

LeafWallet.com Still canna.  Canna money

RangeBright.com  I could have probably had this for $12 if I hadn’t put it here

Escrow.com

I’ve been looking through online marketplaces recently, mostly FB but sometimes craigslist. I probably won’t buy one anytime soon, but I’ve been looking at boats that are bigger than the one I have. My boat is great for the river, it has a jet drive outboard, can draft if a couple inches of water and bounce off of rocks without destroying the prop. My boats a little small for places like the lower potomac, where the wind and waves can beat it up, not to mention the wake from the ships that go by.

There are tons of boats listed for sale. Most of them usually have the price listed, but after that the listings very greatly. Some go in depth and have multiple photos, others have a blurry pic with a 3 word description.

Taking an average of these, most listings have a decent amount of info but the ones that go the extra mile and list all the pertinent information are the ones that I look at. It’s a pain in the ass to message the seller to find out what year the motor is, or if it comes with a trailer, or any of a number of other questions.

The problem is that these boats aren’t super unique or premium, they’re good and average, but that’s what I want, an average boat that works. If I did come across something awesome that I really wanted, sure I’d go the extra step and message with owner back and forth, but that’s not usually what happens.

So it makes me think that the people with the lazy listings probably don’t wanna sell their boats. I imagine that their spouses have mandated that they try and sell the boat, so they throw some half ass listing on facebook and are able to say with a straight face that they are attempting to get rid of the boat.  Whether this is the case or not, I imagine that the sell through rate for the crappy listings are super low in comparison to the listings that are vague and cause the buyer to make extra steps.

At this point you should know where I’m headed with this post. You’re more likely to sell domains to end users if you decrease the amount of steps for the buyer to obtain the name. This usually manifests itself as a buy it now listing, but there’s other a few other things that can slow the process.

The bottom line: for good,  average domains, that people want and need for their business, the easier the process the more domains you will sell.

Sometimes it’s like beating a dead horse talking about the same things, but when a real world example presents itself I think it’s worth looking at. Sometimes you need to hear something over and over for it to sink in.

Click the links for current prices, most links are commissionable and fund the operation.

LUCKYCAMS.COM  All of these names are at auction and seem to have sites on them. I don’t know if the site comes with it, but maybe there’s traffic.

Main List

The No Bid List

AlertCab.com  There used to be a service that would get you a cab for free is you were out drinking. It was a great idea, you’re out, you’re too drunk to drive, no problem you can get a free cab. Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Monday November 12th, 2018

I wanted to start the day by thanking all those that served in the armed services.  Combat and war is an awful thing but I do realize that the great life and opportunity that surrounds me is only possible because of the freedoms that millions of men and women have fought for. Had my Grandfather not gone to Germany to end Hitler’s reign there possibly could be millions less Jewish people in this world.  So thank you to all that have served.

On a completely different note.  Like millions of other kids in the late 80s and 90s I was into baseball and basketball cards.   I lived in Chicago and followed Michael Jordan’s every move.  Every magazine he was on I put on a piece of cardboard and shrink-wrapped.  Every card I bought.  I got lucky.   99% of all the cards back then are worthless but Jordan turned out to be one if not the best players of all times.  Definitely the most popular.  One of my purchases were boxes of 86 fleer basketball.   A box of those now go for about $80,000.  I had three.  I used my Jordan cards for spending money back in college and many years after.  I sold my last few packs a few years ago and still got $700 a pack.  It’s easy to look in hind site and thought if I kept it all I would have half a million dollars worth of stuff.  But the money I got over the last few decades made life much more enjoyable and at times meant I could buy clothes or even as simple as go out for a few beers with my friends.

Michael Jordan represented the childhood for so many people 30 years ago.  They want to have a piece of it.  I still have a ton of magazines, papers, and cards and pull it out for a smile every once in a while.  I don’t get upset that I sold too soon but rather am thankful that it allowed me to do some things that I couldn’t have done otherwise.  I feel the same about domains.  I sold some domains for 1/10 of what they are worth now but that money allowed me to do the things that got me where I am now.  Because we don’t live life yearning for the period at the end of the sentence.  We cherish the words of the sentence along the way.  Jordan let me enjoy the sentence.

Here are today’s names.  Click through to see the current price

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
